My King Ratz Art

My King Ratz is a single player mobile game where you take control of a rat who is trying to rebuild their army rats. Explore the sewer city to find, save, and recruit more rats into your colony, or return home and take care of your rats!

Character Concept Sketches

I designed a few different rats that would be used as the main character as well as the companions you gain throughout the game. After putting it to a vote, we settled on the top right design.

This is the colored version of the rat sketch. The rat design was tweaked a bit by our animator to make it easier to animate.

The Pizzeria minigame originally was going to feature this round rat, but that idea was scrapped, because we didn’t have enough time to finish designing the rat.

Sewer City Concept Sketches

This is a sketch of the sewer city and it’s layout. A few things have changed since the creation of this sketch, such as the can building not being in the game as well as fishing and bomb popping minigame looking slightly different.

The current sewer city is a 2.5D enviornment.

Originally, the city was going to be a 2D environment. Some minigames would be found in the city, while others would be found in the home. The ladder to the right would take you to a maze where you would learn more about the world. This was eventually scrapped for what we have now. Some of these assets were reused in the final version of the sewer city.

Trap Defusal Background

The background of the trap defusal minigame is a high tech mousetrap. The minigame was originally Minesweeper, but was later changed to Mastermind. The icon in the top left was for the Minesweeper variant of this minigame.

Trap Defusal UI

The UI for the Trap Defusal Minigame was designed in a way to make it look like a electronic device that you are trying to disable, while still having enough space to show the background art as well.
